DISASTER CONSCIOUSNESS REPORT



DISASTER CONSCIOUSNESS
NARRATTIVE REPORT


             Prior to the declaration of the National Disaster Council, July as the National Disaster Consciousness Month, The Youth for the Environment in Schools Organization spearheaded the conduct of the consecutive activities in accordance for the said event.

            On July 28, 2011, the club conducted contests on Essay Writing and Poster Slogan.     For the essay writingm thirteen participants joined in writing an essay about the theme, “Makialam, Makiisa; sa Pagsugpo ng panganib, May Maitutulong Ka”. Their write-ups were then judged by Mrs. Leonora Demerin, Mrs. Ma. Necisitas Jeneath Gumatay, and Mrs. Ivy I. Naparan.

             For the Poster Slogan, different topics related to disaster consciousness and damage reduction were assigned to the four year levels. For the First year, five participants from different sections made a poster slogan about “Water Waste Disposal”. No sophomore dared to make a poster slogan about “Water Conservation”. For the third year, four participants from third year SSC drew about “What they can do to reduce Pollution.” For the fourth year, only one participant joined. He made a poster on the Display Center and were judged by Mr.Elorde Quiamco, Mr. Roy Albaciete and Mr. Jerico D. Catipay.

             The culmination was held on August 1, 2011 at 3:00 in the TNHS Covered Court. The program started with an invocation by the Third Year SSC students. The Pambansang Awit followed led by Bless Manuel, the Sgt. at Arms of the YES-O. An opening message was delivered by Christine Ivy I. Naparan, the president of the YES-O. Mrs. RoselynBenito, the adviser of the said organization gave the statement of purpose. It was the followed by an intermission number by Kristine Adreana Mordeno, of second year ESEP. A message was thendelivered by Mr. Leopoldo Pulido, Principal IV of Trento National High School. Criteria for judging for the three contests were read by Lora Mae Fabular, Muse of YES-O and Kemp Rae Yusta, Auditor of the YES-O.

            The highlight of the said event was the debate. Mr. Joseph Ahwie San Diego read the rules and the flow of the debate before the contest began. First year speakers from first year ESEP battled with the speakers from the Second Year ESEP speakers. The topic they argued is, “With the damages brought about by the disaster, people always blame the government. “Is it proper to do so?” Meanwhile, third year speakers from third year SSC argued with the fourth year SSC speakers on “With the flooding in Albay, people blame the PAG-ASA for the damages. It is proper to do so?” The judges were Mr. Wilfredo Vistal, Ms. Neoly PeƱol and Mrs. Yolanda Tagal.

           
Right after the debate, Kristianne Jed Apad of IV-SSC delivered her oratorical piece on disaster consciousness which won 2nd place in the Division Level.

            After the judging scores were tabulated and finalized, awarding of winners was held. For the easy writing, Devine Grace Janiola, of III-SSC won 1st place, Carmela Duron of III-SSC won the 2nd place and Georynhard Mordeno of IV-SSC won the 3rd place. In poster Slogan Contest for first year Junilfa Tura of I-ESEP got the 1st place. Clarissel Yakit of I-SSC ranked and Irish Uyangurin of I-ESEP ranked 3rd for the third year, Godwin Cabusog and Rowena Ronquillo, both from III-SSC ranked 1st Jayrald Lariosa ranked 2nd and Rex Donald Moreno ranked3rd for the fourth year, Julwin dela Cruz from fourth year Mabini ranked 1st.

            The result for debate was announced by Mr. Wilfredo Vistal for the first batch of debaters, the speakers from second year Samantha Joy Ogang, Rowena Mejos and Marisol Tormon as the Best Debater. For the second batch of debaters, the speakers from fourth year Wilyneth Cantong, Christine Ivy I. Naparan and Rouithe Perez won the debate, with Rouithes Perez as the best debater.
